Hello Again.

So here I am, back from a brief blog hiatus.  I’ve had a crazy week+ with work, leaving Jerrod to take over many of my mom duties and neglecting the blog completely. I thought that this past week might be an excellent first-hand lesson on how hard it is to stay at home with two small children.  Jerrod, however, seemed to take it all in stride.  After a few days, he said that he could totally be a stay at home dad.  And I must admit, the house was ever so clean each day when I came home, and dinner was even on the table once or twice.  Jerrod might be a better wife and mother than I am.  I did receive this picture one afternoon while I was away, which left me wondering about exactly what happens when I am gone.

Apparently she told Jerrod that she was getting ready for the wedding.  What wedding?  No clue.  But I surmise that the dress code is very casual, shirts and pants optional.

But then I also got this picture, which clearly shows one happy baby.  So he must have been doing pretty well.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking.  She’s not getting any skinnier, and we love her chubbiness.

The craziness is (mostly) over now, and I’m happily reunited with my family.  Here’s the father of the year with our little brood today at lunch.  What a precious lap-full of girls.  My cup (his lap) runneth over.

Scenes From The Blanket.

with 2 comments

These days, we spend a lot of time on a blanket spread out on our living room floor for a certain youngster to practice her almost crawling.  I have to stay by Claire, and Avery feels like she has to stay by me.  So inevitably we all end up on The Blanket.  You probably had surmised that my world is small, you just didn’t realize that it is blanket-sized.  Here’s a typical session on The Blanket.  Exciting stuff, I know.

Everyone is happily hanging out.  The Blanket universe is in harmony.

Enter the toy phone.  Claire is intrigued.  Target acquired.

Claire has made her way to the target.  Avery in an impressive display of nonchalance is both holding Claire at bay and also acting like she doesn’t see her.

Now no one is happy.  Avery lovingly gave in and acknowledged her sister (read: I made her acknowledge her sister and propped Claire in her lap).  Claire just wanted the phone, not a hug.

For my personal entertainment, they are dressed in matching outfits.  Hey, if I’m going to hang out on The Blanket with two kids for extended periods of time, I might as well amp up the entertainment value in any way possible.

Old Friends, New Friends.

with one comment

We had an adorable little visitor this weekend – tiny A.L.M.  Lucky for us, she brought her mother along for the ride, who just so happens to be one of my best friends from college.  I love catching up with old friends (old referencing the age of the friendship, not the age of the friends, of course).  We had lots of laughs with three pint-sized girls around the house.  Avery was thrilled to find that A.L.M. is much bigger than the last time she saw her and can do all sorts of things, like go to the park!

Avery shadowed our house guests pretty much all weekend, asking them her new favorite question “Are you sure?”  We are not exactly sure what she means by this, but we always assure her that we are sure.  One of the highlights of the weekend was watching this adorable face suck down her spaghetti with relish.

The only thing better than some concentrated time with an old friend is watching our little ones become new friends.  Hopefully someday, these new friends will be dear, old friends, just like their moms.

Since Claire was left out of most of the action (sorry Claire, that’s what happens when you’re petite and immobile), here’s a gratuitous Claire pic.  And yes, those are bunny boots.

Weekend Wishes.

We are getting very excited for the weekend around our house.  What’s not to love?  Donut day, a visit from our friends the M’s, and even some predicted sunshine.  Clearly, we’re barely containing our excitement.  Okay, so Avery’s excitement might actually be finger paint-fueled, but you get the idea.  Happy Thursday!

The Impossible Dream.

leave a comment »

As I shopped and planned for Christmas, I had a vision in my mind of a perfect family photo in front of the Christmas tree – two little girls in complimentary Christmas dresses, smiling in front of the tree.  With this single vision, I relentlessly perused smocked Christmas dresses.  Fine, “relentlessly perused” might be giving an intensity to the situation that wasn’t quite there.  Christmas Eve rolled around, and I felt we were poised to achieve the perfect family photo to capture our first Christmas as a  four-some.  Two Christmas dresses on two little girls.  One bun secured on the head of one protesting three-year old.  One six month old still awake and moderately cheerful.  Christmas tree lit.  Action.

Take One.

Take Two.

Take Three.

Take Four.

Sigh.  I don’t think I realized how much harder it is to get two children to cooperate for family photo time as opposed to one child.  How could one tiny infant be such a game-changer?  Please note that Jerrod and I both have almost identical expressions and positions in each picture.  We came to play.  We did not move a muscle and stared into the camera, unflappable, as our children writhed and contorted.  Ah well, there’s always next year.  The pictures were bad, but the memories were perfect.

Sometimes when you’re the second child, you end up naked in your exersaucer.  Sorry Claire.

Double Trouble.

leave a comment »

On Friday, the weather was beautiful, so we decided to take the girls on a walk.  The double stroller made its neighborhood debut.  For some reason, it made me extremely happy to see my girls sitting side by side in the stroller.  Seriously, my heart swelled with pride.  I have no idea why I was so proud – I’m aware that plopping my children in a stroller is no great feat.  Perhaps I was proud of the stroller?  It was pricey.  Naturally, this moment was thoroughly documented.

The photo session may have lasted longer than the actual walk.  Claire was quite displeased by the time we reached the corner.
